On SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2016, Make-A-Wish® Iowa will be holding its 17th annual Share the Power of a Wish Gala. The Share the Power of a Wish Gala is the largest fundraiser for the Riverbend Area Committee for Make-A-Wish Iowa and because of the excellent support received by the QCA community and friends, it is possible to grant the wish of every eligible child in the Iowa Quad Cities! From a single wish in 1987, Make-A-Wish Iowa has granted more than 3,000 wishes to children living in Iowa. Currently, a wish is being granted every other day in the state. Make-A-Wish Iowa granted 189 wishes in their last fiscal year.
800 guests, including community leaders and local wish children and their families will gather together to enjoy an evening to celebrate the wishes granted during 2015. The theme of this year’s event is a Black & White Ball. This black-tie optional evening will feature a cocktail hour with silent auction, dinner, program, live auction. The evening will conclude with dancing. This year’s program will feature a video of two special wish kids and their families who will share their wish and how the experience changed their lives. It is truly a magical evening and you definitely won’t want to miss out. Once again, this event is being held at Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf with cocktail hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. and dinner/program/live auction at 7:30 p.m.
A wish come true empowers children with life-threatening medical conditions to fight harder against their illnesses. However, it’s not just the wish child who receives all the benefits. The act of wish granting serves to strengthen communities. When volunteers help to grant wishes, they report feeling an increased sense of compassion and desire to help others, and a great faith in humanity.
