Make-A-Wish® Iowa Honors Council Bluffs Volunteer

January 28, 2015

Make-A-Wish® Iowa recently released the names of their annual award winners and Joe Leinen of Council Bluffs was the recipient of the local committee member of the year and the organization’s Cornerstone award, given to a volunteer who consistently supporting the chapter's activities and daily operations by always being available when needed.  This individual often works quietly and steadily behind-the-scenes to ensure the chapter's success. Leinen has been a volunteer with the organization since 2000 and has served as the local treasurer throughout his tenure.

Leinen’s fellow Make-A-Wish Iowa volunteers describe him as an invaluable member of the Southwest Iowa Committee. A dedicated volunteer for many years, he’s someone who can be counted on to follow through and does a great job keeping committee finances organized and reported. He’s a wonderful asset to the committee.

“Joe has always been there for us. He never complains and works very quietly in the background on whatever we ask,” shares a local volunteer. “The committee feels like we couldn't do it without him and that he never gets recognized because stays in the background, gives his treasurers report and very rarely complains about anything.  He's always at every event helping with whatever needs done.  He's a great guy, takes very good care of his entire family and always makes time for Make-A-Wish.”

“Joe is an asset to our team in southwest Iowa,” said Chris Voggesser, CEO of Make-A-Wish Iowa. “I’m not sure he realizes just how much his quiet, behind-the-scenes work impacts our wish kids. I’m thankful for his service.”

Leinen will be recognized at the organization’s Wishland Speedway event on April 11th at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs. Tickets are available by visiting or calling (515) 334-2636.

Make-A-Wish Iowa granted 153 wishes in their last fiscal year and anticipate granting 185 in our current year – that’s about a wish every other day.
